The yellow eyed penguins. They are native to NZ and are a great thing to see down in Dunedin. The Elm Wildlife are a great asset to helping save this species. They helped with breeding the birds as kept going the eggs alive.

What does "Introduced Species" mean?
Introduced species that are living outside of their natural habitat and were brought to a different place.
Why were they brought to NZ?
They were brought to N.Z in the early 1800's by the Europeans.
Why have their numbers exploded?
When they saw that there were no preadators and plenty of food for them to eat they bred and spread wall over the country
What affect do they have on native plants and animals?
Introduced species have a huge affect on our native plants and animals. They eat flightless birds eggs out of their nests on the ground, they ruin our leaves and trees. This means that some of our natives are dying and/or going extinct.
How is the DOC (Department of Consevation)
- How are stoats and weasels effecting our native things?
They eat the eggs of our native birds which means that our birds are slowly going extinct.
- What control methods are being used?
Traps and 1080 poison is being used for control
- Are those methods any success
